2017 Race/Run Guide

Tis the season for runs. Here are some of our favorite runs in Calgary and the surrounding area.

Top 10 Fun Runs

For those that secretly or not so secretly don't like to run that much, there are still runs for you.

St Patrick Island Fun Run May 6 $35 5Km Get a chance to don your best hawaiian shirt and take part in a Hawaiian themed run at St Patricks Island. To complete the Hawaiian theme a lei and Hawaiian themed lunch will be given to you at the finish line.

Doggy Dash May 27 $30-50 1mile or 5km If you love puppies, you'll love the doggy dash. If you hate them you'll be motivated to run faster. You can choose to run either distance with or without a dog.  Swag bags are given out to all participants and you can also fundraise for the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society.

Linden Color Run June 3 $20 5km run/walk Add some color to your run. One of the cheapest color runs around Calgary. Prizes for best costumes and free dinner afterwards. Only an hour away from Calgary!

Mega Bounce Run Aug 26 $55-67 5km Cochrane Bounce your way through 10 different inflatable obstacles spread over the 5km run.  Shirt and medal included.

Vaughn's Memorial Color Run Sept 3 $40-50  5km/10km Add some color to your run for a good cause. Money from run goes to Vaughn's Memorial Fund. Shirt included with registration fee.

Terry Fox Run Sept 17 Choose your own distance Relive your elementary school years or your memories of Terry Fox and feel inspired by participating in this iconic run. No money required though donations are welcome. BBQ and admission to Telus Spark afterwards.

Rock the House Run Sept 17  $45-55 10km/5km Enjoy some of Calgary's finest entertainers while you run around the Varsity area. Money raised goes to the Ronald Mcdonald House.

Insane Inflatable 5K Sept 23 $60 5km 11 inflatables spread out over 5km. Because who can resist a bouncy castle? There's also a Midway with games and music to enjoy afterwards. Shirts and medals included.

Dash of Doom Oct 28 5km/10km. If you love to dress up or dress up your dog this is the race for you. Dogs are welcome and there are prizes for best costumes, times and deadlast. Great medals for all participants. Supports the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society.

Dashing Through the Glow Dec 8 $50-70 5km Enjoy the well known Spruce Meadows Christmas light display by running through it. Post race meal and medal included and you can also tour the Christmas markets.

Top 7 Scenic Runs

We have some of the best scenery around, so why not run in it? While you may not get to stop and admire the views running through them can be just as good.

Woody's RV World Marathon May 21 $55-100 10km/Half Marathon/Marathon  Red Deer Run through Red Deer’s park and trail system following the Red Deer River.

Five Peaks Canmore June 10 $47-55 7km/15.5km Trail run on the world famous Canmore Nordic Trails surrounded by mountain peaks. Registration includes a hat and awards for top finishers.

Iron Legs Aug 12 $100-120 60km/50 miler /100km  Bragg Creek Run up some ridges for some fantastic mountain views. If you feel like your legs aren't quite iron enough there are also relay options.

Canmore Half Marathon Sept 10 $40-100 Half marathon/10km/5km Canmore Enjoy a run through the beautiful town and surrounding area. Money raised goes to CAUSE Canada.

MEC Calgary Road Race  Sept 16 $15-30 6 5km/10km/15km/30km Enjoy beautiful Fish Creek Park and take part in a chip timed race for a great price.

Dinosaur Valley Half Marathon Sept 10 $20-70 Half marathon/10km/5km Drumheller Change up the usual scenery and enjoy the beautiful badlands.

Melissa's Road Race Sept 23 $50-70 5/km/10km/21km Banff Take part in a road race through Banff. Profits generated from the race are donated back to the community. All participants receive a Tech Shirt and Finishers Medal, post race beverages and snacks, 1/2 price voucher for dinner at Melissa's (not valid on race weekend) and post race party.

Top 5 Obstacle Course Runs

For people that only run to get to the next obstacle.

X Warrior  May 13 $50-65 5km Have more fun without beer at the Stampede Grandstand than you would have thought possible. Navigate over 20 obstacles around the stadium. One of the pluses of the stadium race is that while you may wind up getting dirty, there are no mud obstacles. It's also one of the biggest obstacle course races that's locally produced. Medal, t-shirt, photos and afterparty included.

Wild Rose Rough Runner  June 3 $80 4km/8km Pincher Creek Run through some great obstacles while surrounded by great scenery. 16 obstacles, T-shirt, medal, photos and after race festivities included.

Heroes Behind the Heroes July 1 $55-65  5km Celebrate Canada Day by running through Spruce Meadows and partaking in some military themed obstacles. Registration includes a shirt.

Spartan Race Aug 12-13 $69-89 5-8km/13-16km Take part in the obstacle course race that made obstacle course races popular. The shorter race has 20-23 obstacles while the longer had 24-29.

Zombie Survivor  Aug 26 $35-50 5km Run through 30+ obstacles while trying not to get tagged by zombies. Regardless of whether you get tagged you will get to finish the course. Registration includes medal, photos, tattoos, bandanas and festival grounds with beer gardens and bands.
