There’s also free indoor skating from December 26 at the City of Calgary arenas and December 27-January 1 at Winsport. Winsport also has free skate rentals and stick and puck sessions.

If you don’t have any New Year’s Plans or even if you do head out for Martin Parnell’s annual New Year’s Eve Run raising money for an ice rink in Afghanistan or Resolution Run an evening run put on by the Running Room ($60). If you’re looking for something to do with your kids for New Year’s you can head to Southland Leisure Centre, Village Square Leisure Centre,Telus Spark (all reg admission) or City Hall for New Year’s eve celebrations where kids can burn off some energy and enjoy an early countdown.

You can also start off your new year with a run. Take part in the Resolution Virtual X Run put on by XWarrior. Run 5km anytime between January 1-8 and complete 10 additional exercises. Medals , toques and certificates will be mailed to you upon completion ($30-$45).

The University of Calgary has holiday pricing on until January 2. It’s only $5.25 to access the fitness centre, running track, swimming pool, bouldering and climbing wall.
