Free Fitness in the Summertime

Feeling a little cash strapped? You’re in luck because summer is a great time to save some money on fitness. Here’s a list of some of the great workout classes and groups that you can hit up for absolutely free.

Monday

November Project meets at 6:13am for a free run and bootcamp style workout. The location changes up, so follow them on Facebook to see where they’re meeting. If you don’t manage to make it this summer, they meet outside all year round.

Calgary Quidditch Club has free drop in from 6:30-8pm at Riley Park until the end of August. If you have never played before they are more than happy to show you how.

Tuesday

Lole Calgary 17th offers free yoga every morning in August from 8:30-9:30am.

East Village Yoga runs from 12-1 at the East Village Experience Centre until October, weather permitting.

YYC Run Crew meets every Tuesday at 6pm in front of the Lululemon on 4th.

Wednesday

East Village HIIT runs from 12-1 at the East Village Experience Centre until October, weather permitting.

Running Room Kensington and Running Room Eau Claire have free run clubs at 6pm.

Running Room Glenmore Landing, Running Room Crowfoot, Running Room Shawnessy, Running Room Country Hills and Running Room Westhills have  free run clubs at 6:30.

Mission District Run Crew put on by the Tech shop meets at 7pm anad also runs year round.

Thursday

East Village Barre runs from 12-1 at the East Village Experience Centre until October, weather permitting.

Friday

East Village Junction Yoga runs from 12:10-1:10 at the East Village Junction.

Saturday

Nosehill Park Run starts at 9am every Saturday in Nose Hill. It’s a free 5km timed run with many participants going for coffee afterwards. Runs year round.

MEC Run Crew Meet in front of MEC at 9am for a 45-60 minute run covering 5km to 10km. There will be someone at the front and close to the back so you can run at your own speed but people should be comfortable continuously running 5km before participating. Bag drop available at service desk.

Big Rock Runners is Okotoks Running Club which meets every Saturday at 9am year round. There are groups for all abilities and runs last from 30 to 90 minutes depending on which group you join. Post coffee afterwards.  While membership is $25 for the year, they invite you to try it out a few times for free to see if you like it.

Hot Behind Run Crew is a running and yoga group led by Connie DeSousa. While it caters to those working in the food industry all are welcome. They meet at the East Village Junction at 10am.

JMS Yoga runs a free yoga class in Bridgeland at McDougall Park from 1-2.

Sunday

Running Room Kensington, Running Room Glenmore, Running Room Crowfoot, Running Room Shawnessy, Running Room Country Hills, Running Room Eau Claire  and Running Room Westhills all have run clubs at 8:30.

YYC Run Crew with Lululemon starts off in East Village Junction at 9:30.

MEC Ride Meet Up Head to the West Springs Starbucks for a 30-50km intensive ride. Helmets required.

Outdoor Yoga Calgary takes place in Stanley Park, amidst the flower beds and trees. While donations are welcomed with a portion going to Kiva, everyone is welcome. 1-2pm.
